The 1328B Timken is a cup for a single-row tapered roller bearing. This cup is an outer ring that can be combined with a separately available cone (the cage with rolling elements), to form a complete tapered roller bearing. The outer and inner rings have conical raceways and the roller elements are conical as well. This design enables tapered roller bearings to absorb radial and axial forces (in one direction). The greater the angle between the outer ring and the centre line of the bearing, the greater the axial load capacity.
The 1328B Timken has a flange. This external flange allows for easy axial placement of a tapered roller bearing in a housing. As no housing shoulders or seats are required, the housing bore can be produced more easily and economically. The result is a more compact and simple bearing design. Also, correct alignment of seals is easier to attain.
The geometrical qualities of tapered roller bearings prevent sliding movements between the raceways and rollers. This will keep component wear down to a minimum. However, a minimum load is required for proper bearing operation. Because cup and cone are separable, they can easily be mounted. In addition, end play (axial clearance) or preload can be adjusted by moving the components axially during assembly.
For reliable operation of your bearing, it is best to replace cone and cup at the same time. We recommend taking components from the same manufacturer. This prevents bearing problems caused by different internal bearing profiles, differences in material, and in tolerances. Always combine the 1328B Timken with a matching cone from the same manufacturer.
